Tropical Storm Melissa is predicted to escalate to a infrequent highest-level hurricane as it turns towards Jamaica, delivering life-threatening sudden floods and mudslides.

The cyclone, which had wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 6:00 AM GMT, is currently turning toward the northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to make landfall by early next week, according to weather experts.

Advisories of electricity outages and damage to infrastructure have been announced as this storm generates up to 76cm of precipitation and coastal flooding as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Seek shelter now," residents have been advised.

The cyclone is the 13th hurricane in the ongoing Atlantic hurricane season, which usually concludes in November.

Locals are being told to protect their properties with sandbags and timber panels, and to gather essentials.

Warnings are also ongoing for parts of Haiti such as the primary urban center, the Dominican Republic and the eastern part of Cuba, where Melissa is anticipated to bring analogous consequences by the middle portion of the coming week.

Rock slides currently triggered by the cyclone have resulted in two fatalities in Haiti, according to local authorities.

Future Course

Melissa is forecast to move across the island nation by midweek before traveling via the Greater Antilles and entering the open ocean.

By the time it reaches the Caribbean nation, it is predicted to have diminished to a third-level cyclone.
